Yo La Tengo / McCarren Park Pool
Finale
August 24, 2008
One of the elder-statesmen bands of American indie rock, Yo La Tengo has been putting out great albums for more than 20 years. As unassailably cool as obvious influence the Velvet Underground, the Hoboken trio loves feedback-drenched noise, droney shoegaze and pretty melodies in equal measure. For this final McCarren Park Pool Party—for the season at least—the band opened loud and dirty with a horn combo peppering their walls of noise, kept things minimal in the middle third and closed out with an ensemble cover of “Where Eagles Dare” and organ-driven “Sweater Song.” A melancholy finish for a truly melancholy moment. Summer is officially over people. Titus Andronicus and Ebony Rose opened.
